    MAN Powers Antarctic Icebreaker

    MAN Diesel & Turbo has been selected to supply the main engines to a new, icebreaking, supply-and-research vessel for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). The 2 × 16V32/44CR main engines – each producing 9,600 kW – were chosen for their highly reliable and fuel-efficient design that will serve in an environment with a demanding operational profile, including temperatures down to -30 degrees and extended mission times. The vessel is being procured by Serco Defence through DMS Maritime (prime contractor) and will be designed and built by Damen Shipyards Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS).

    MV Werften selects MAN engines for two “Global Class” cruise ships

    MAN Diesel & Turbo and MV Werften have concluded a contract to equip two “Global Class” cruise ships for Star Cruises. With a registered tonnage (RT) of 200,000 tons each, the ships will be some of the largest on the market and will each be equipped with six type 48/60CR engines with a combined output of 96,000 kW. The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2020 and 2021.

    World’s Largest Cruise Line Continues Growth with MAN Engines

    MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the engine-supply contract from Fincantieri for newbuildings ordered by Costa Asia and P&O Cruises, Australia. The two companies are members of Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest leisure travel company with a combined fleet of over 100 ships across 10 cruise-line brands.

    World’s First LNG-Powered Bulker with ME-GI Prime Mover Announced

    After a period of negotiation, Korean shipowner, ILSHIN and HMD (Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd.) have signed a shipbuilding contract for a 50,000 dwt bulk carrier. As a world first for the segment, the vessel will be powered by an MAN B&W 6G50ME-C9.5-GI engine, to be built by HHI-EMD who will also supply the ME-GI and fuel gas supply system.

    World’s First Two-Stroke Low-Speed Triple Fuel ME-GIE Engine Completed at Mitsui’s Tamano Works

    Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) announced on 29 June that they have completed the world’s first ME-GIE ethane-operated two-stroke diesel engine. The engines will be for propulsion of three ethylene carriers, which primarily will carry liquid ethane as cargo.
